University of Malta academic Claire Azzopardi Lane works hand in hand with several NGOs, including MGRM, on LGBTIQ+ research. As a proud member of the community herself, she has been engaged in activism locally from a very young age. She is now a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty for Social Wellbeing, specifically in the areas of gender and sexuality. Co-founder of Drachma and the Drachma Parents’ Group, Mario Gerada has been a trailblazing LGBTIQ+ activist since the early 2000s, encouraging fellow people of faith from within the community to embrace their beliefs whilst still fighting the good fight in a non-violent manner. An extremely vocal ally of the LGBTIQ+ community, academic and researcher Angele Deguara currently coordinates the Pride Working Group within Moviment Graffitti. From a very young age, she has been an exemplary activist as part of several other organisations including MGRM and Alternattiva Demoktratika. She is currently fronting a research looking into the experiences of LGBTIQ+ individuals in Malta diagnosed with HIV.
